The
LCANJ became an association in the late seventies, and soon grew
into a larger community by the nineteen-nineties. The association
encompass eleven counties in the State of New Jersey, namely: Sussex,
Warren, Hunterdon, Somerset, Morris, Passaic, Bergen, Essex, Hudson,
Union and Middlesex.
The community grew because of the protracted and
catastrophic civil war that was fought in Liberia for fifteen years.
This sad episode brought many Liberians into exile in many parts
of the world, but more so in the State of New Jersey. Liberians
are, by and large, a proud, dignified and law abiding people. Thus,
as president of LCANJ, Mrs. Mensah M. Jones and our community officials
envisioned that a Website would be a valuable tool in promoting
unity and preserving our self-esteem, particularly for those new
to our Community. Through their efforts, we hope to enhance a better
and viable means of communications between our community and all
friends of Liberia.
This
Website is intended to provide valuable services to Liberians at
home as well as those in the Diaspora. We also hope that our friends
in the State of New Jersey and else where in the United States can
derive some benefits from its entirety. Certainly, the purpose of
this website is threefold:
- To educate
our members about the ever changing
political and technological world,
- To promote
unity amongst all tribal groups in the diaspora, and
- To provide
continuous information about the state of our community to every
individual.
Indeed, with these principles in mind, the goals are, fostering
unity and ushering enlightenment about the world and the U.S. in
particular. In view of this, it is our hope that members may be
empowered and are provided an opportunity for self-improvement or
expression from this site. The membership of LCANJ encompasses the
mosaic of the various ethnic groups that are inherent of the Liberian
Nation. Hence, it is therefore befitting that this site encourages
and promotes cohesiveness amongst its ranks. Individuals are encouraged
to make use of this forum for, among others, Advertisements, Birth,
Wedding, and Death Notices, Opinions, Essays, Poems, etc.
Finally, the LCANJ wishes to commend Mayor Sharpe James and the
people of the City of Newark for helping this community thrive politically
and economically. Their cooperation and assistance given to the
community are invaluable. |
